Champakkulam Boat Race

Champakkulam Boat Race

Event date: 20-06-2016

Venue: Champakkulam

Area: Champakulam

Region: Alappuzha

Ever seen the biggest group activity on the planet? Try not to miss it this year.

In Kerala, the period of watercraft races starts with the eminent Champakkulam Moolam Vallam Kali (vallam kali implies pontoon race). The venue is Champakkulam, a quiet town in Alappuzha locale. The pontoon race is hung on the moolam asterism in the Malayalam month of mithunam (generally June/July).

Upon the arrival of the race, water crafts in different classifications like the chundan (snake-pontoon), veppu, iruttu kuthi, churulan and others from close-by locales, collect at the beginning stage of the race. Among these vessels, the lofty snake-pontoons abandon one awestruck.

Being the biggest wearing occasion on the planet, the snake-vessel race is frequently thought to be a definitive test of continuance, pace and aptitude. As the rowers set the pace of their pontoons on the serene waters of the River Pamba, the group run crazy with fervor and the stream turns into a track ablaze.
